Actually, yes.

I went to school last week and my friends were talking about the new found pastime of the cops……….checking poor fellows on motorcycles for pornographic material on their phones :-) But I don’t know how far it’s true :-P , friend talk could go anywhere………

So, if all the above is true, then I believe it’s a step in the right direction at last.

Pornography, in my view, is a root cause for the self-destruction of a person, mentally. I’m speaking about guys my age who are still at school and study (or don’t) under the guidance of their parents and teachers.

Believe it or not, all the guys in my class are either addicted to porn………..or me. No, I’m not lying here, I think I’m lucky enough to understand the consequences and ill-effects of watching porn.

Please don’t laugh, because I do think that indulging in this particular vice not only corrupts the mind, but pollutes the soul as well. I have come to note through the experiences of friends that watching this becomes a regular habit and is hard to shy away from….you’ve got the internet, your parents are not around, why not?

Through my experiences, I’ve noticed that friends of mine who are regurlar subscribers to this vice are of a more meaner nature, always involved in fights, use vulgar lang, can’t understand or appreciate a teacher’s advice, always have mood shifts and are generally tiresome to be with.

Now, I’m not qualified to talk like this at all, and the above said features of a person could result from a variety of other things totally unrelated to porn, but I’ve been thinking about this a lot in the past few months, observing my friends who openly confess to watching porn. As I said earlier, I don’t believe in watching these things and I don’t. I have told everybody that I don’t and they kinda get pissed off and call me a “p” dial and all sorts of stuff.

Through all this I have also observed their take on porn. It’s manly, they say. You’re a woman if you don’t, they say. You have to do it at least once, they say. They say all this about smoking, drinking, and consuming drugs too. Need I say more……..

So I say, my dear Gov luv, make your ban, if there ever is one, tougher if you want a cleaner, happier, and less ill-effected future generation…..

    two questions:

    1. is porn bad? If so why?
    2. Will a ban work?

I see no harm in porn, having indulged in it for many many years, so long as people can tell the difference between their fantasies (which is what porn caters to) and reality.

Porn has been banned in SL for a long time. Even before the internet, people were still smuggling in books, magazines and films. Now with limitless amounts available on the internet it is impossible to stop.

“meaner nature, always involved in fights, use vulgar lang, can’t understand or appreciate a teacher’s advice, always have mood shifts and are generally tiresome to be with.”

This is probably true of a lot of teenagers anyway.

As you yourself admit, it is difficult to prove causality, between porn and the behaviour above.

    Two answers:

    1. Yes it is bad, why do you think it’s banned in Sri Lanka? Why do you think people are told not to indulge in it by almost all religions? It ,does corrupt the mind specially if at a young age, I have proof in my friends.

    2. If properly enforced, yes. China, Iran and many other counties have requested certain websites to deny access to netizens from their respective countries. Sri Lanka can do much more in decreasing the accessibility of porn sites, specially to children
Authorities can make parents aware of this vice and it’s ill-effects and explain to them methods such as child-locking and filtering in their computers……….the list goes on……..

    I have stated that:

“Pornography, in my view, is a root cause for the self-destruction of a person, mentally.”

I say it is a root cause for corruption and self-destruction, I never stated that it is the only cause……

  5. Malaka Says:

Please don’t imply that porn is bad because it’s banned. That sort of causality justifies the government ban on smoking on TV that you’ve been complaining about before.

Also, could you please elaborate on the line below? Sounds kinda kinky.

“Believe it or not, all the guys in my class are either addicted to porn………..or me”

  6. qraqq Says:

The government ban on smoking and the consumption of alcohol shown on screen will never affect the wider area of smokers and drinkers as explained in my three posts regarding it.

As I have explained explicitly above in my post, I have stated that I believe that porn is bad for these reasons,

1….”is a root cause for the self-destruction of a person, mentally.”

2….”indulging in this particular vice not only corrupts the mind, but pollutes the soul as well.”

3….”friends of mine who are regurlar subscribers to this vice are of a more meaner nature, always involved in fights, use vulgar lang, can’t understand or appreciate a teacher’s advice, always have mood shifts and are generally tiresome to be with.”

  7. qraqq Says:

“Believe it or not, all the guys in my class are either addicted to porn………..or me”

What I mean by this is that all of my classmates are addicted to porn………but I’m not…

  8. Jack Point Says:

Its banned because people think its bad, not because it is proven to be bad.

I’ve been into porn a very long time. Never corrupted me.

  9. Malaka Says:

So, what you meant was “all the guys in my class are addicted to porn… except me”.

Your points 1&2 are quite dodgy. The root cause of mental self-destruction? Please. Look at Jack Point. He turned out ok. And he’s quite the monkey spanker, I’m told…

Point 3 is a personal observation, but I’m not sure if the causality is necessarily proven. Particularly since most of them are probably going through puberty.

    What’s your take on masturbation?

  10. qraqq Says:

    Yep.

Correction my post says a root cause of self-destruction………

Your version of okay and my version of okay are quite different I’m sure…….I’m not comfortable about things many other people will be comfortable with and find acceptable in society…….I guess it’s the way I’m brought up.

What about the other friends I have whom I can vouch for who haven’t watched porn? They must be going through puberty too, right? They constitute exemplary character and self esteem anywhere they go.
    Cause for comparison?

As for masturbation, never tried it……

  11. qraqq Says:

All I’m trying to say is that I think my friends are of this meaner nature because I have observed through my schooling life and think I have a right to voice my conclusions.

Once again I tell you, most of you who have read all of this are probably out of school and have been for some time now. Times change, people change, society changes. You probably have no idea what’s going on in schools right now.

    I do.

  12. Ni Says:

Religion is the one thing that corrupts the minds of masses.

Nobody becomes a lesser person for watching porn. I mean, if not for the clothes, all movies and photographs would be porn, won’t it?

There are so many things that should be legalised in this country, so that some kind of sanity comes into it, and maybe bring about some prosperity, economic and otherwise.

    One of them is pornography.

The other is prostitution. It’s an untapped goldmine. Of course, it should work within a legal framework, under licenses and strict regulation. If AIDS is your counter-argument, it’s quite a weak one. In the state of Nevada, US, prostitution is legal, and the prevalence of HIV is one of the lowest in the country, and there are very strict laws which make sure the workers are tested each week. (they make a good amount of money too). Damn, I’d be a prostitute if I weren’t so damn ugly.

Oh back to the pornography debate, everywhere, even in Sri Lanka, it’s not only guys who “indulge in” (I prefer to use “enjoy”, because at the end of the day, it’s enjoyable, entertaining and very interesting) pornography. Even girls are in the habit (a very few open-minded ones) and the numbers are growing, percentage-wise.

Of course, people like the original poster are getting rarer, even among the female populace, and the best thing I can wish him is an early death.
