Crap still continuing……..

For those of you who don’t know what this means, please read, ‘What the crap is the Government up to now???’. Anyway as I stated in the post before the last one, when watching a movie on MTV, I suddenly saw the screen blotted out and a sign saying, ‘This is due to Government Regulations on Alcohol and Tobacco……………

Yesterday, Monday, I switched on to my favourite TV programme, Veronica Mars shown on ETV. Suddenly, during a bar scene, the screen blotted out for apparently no reason, but there was no explanation as to what was happening, no ‘Government Regulations’ sign. But now I’m sure the Government has imposed some new ban on alcohol and tobacco consumption being shown on screen……..

So, so, so, the Government’s cracking down on the vices of Sri Lanka, actually, can you call drinking and smoking not being shown on TV, ‘cracking down’? How many times have you seen a person smoking on TV and films already? How many times will you see a man smoking on the road?

People will always drink and smoke at parties and functions unless you absolutely cannot find any liqour in the country (like that will happen).

When you blot out scenes from a show, it makes it very annoying and a nuiscance to the the viewers………….what will Mahinda do next to completely destroy the TV industry in Sri Lanka?

Are these people so jobless?

  1. yeah bloody irritating to watch TV now. First of all most of the stuff is crap, and the ones watchable are censored. You miss half of the story line…stupid donkeys, like it’s going to stop someone who drinks from having one, just because it’s not shown.

EXACTLY my point here. Even little kids will see drinking at parties and whatnot………..

  4. I know…….I was watching a clean and simple English movie the other day, and they blotted the screen out and without any explanation on screen…! My mom came into the room and asked me what was happening and she also got suspicious (what parent won’t suspect something?)………how could I explain? We end up the losers either way…….

  6. Lol.. I feel your pain!!… I had to go through the cruel and unusual punishment of listening to Mahinda’s same speech twice, during his visit to LA. I guess I had zoned out the first time… but when I was listening to him rant the next day… and when he said because of his “Mathata Thita” that you dont see a man smoking on the road… I almost had a heart attack!!….

  7. oh man i can relate to qraqqs scene with mom. I told her, but she doesnt seem to believe me and now I have to patiently endure hints and comments she randomly throws out at me :P Stupid anti-drug policy.

Dnt get me wrong im all for reducing booze addicts, but this is so not the way to go about it. Kids are more likely to drink after seeing their drunken parents and Ran depeya. If you must do it, slap a few higher taxes maybe and make some money while you’re at it. This is just him trying to make DCSL and the “Save-Sri-Lanka” type groups happy at the same time. We get screwed right in the middle of all this crap.

  8. Most of the censorship seems to be on MTV, I’ve not seen it on ETV myself. Dynavision or Artv or whatever its called now seeems to be happily showing whatever they like. What’s up with that? I can understand it if its some drug scene or something, but blocking out 10 mins of aa 20-min episode (on faamily dramas no less) just ‘cos there are some fucking bottles in the background is just plain dumb. Oh well, one more day in the Democratic Socialist Hypocritic Republic of SL.
